E30 M3 Track Pads (97 Compound)

This compound was designed as an all-purpose pad where excellent controllability was a priority over ultimate stopping power. Due to its excellent modulation characteristics, this pad has proved very popular with race schools, rallying, and as a rear pad for applications such as touring cars. 97 has the lowest wear of all compounds, typically providing two to three times more life expectancy than competitors. This compound can also dramatically extend disc life.

97 is a medium torque race compound and as a result can provide reduced brake temperatures in situations where poor cooling can result in premature disc failure. 97 has the flattest torque curve of all the Performance Friction compounds. Effective from 167°F and reach 2000°F (75°C, reach 1100°C), 97 uses Performance Friction’s unique lubrication package that maintains a minimal transfer layer on the disc to help prevent brake judder and provide excellent release properties, therefore reducing overall drag in the brake system. 97 is extremely easy on the discs with very low wear.

97 is now being used in Bondurant, Derek Daley, Dale Jarrett Driving Adventure, Panoz, Mid Ohio, and Jim Russell racing schools because of it's long wear vs. performance vs. control and modulation.

E30 Track Pads (Carbotech)

For the Non-M E30's (325/318) we finally have Track pads again. These Carbotechs seem to be working very well on the track so we're very excited to hear your feedback on them. Two different compounds are available. Carbotech's official statements follow.

XP08: A high torque brake compound with a wide operating temperature range (250F to 1350F). Outstanding initial bite at race temperatures, high coefficient of friction (0.58-0.60), excellent modulation and release characteristics, extremely high fade resistance, very rotor friendly and excellent wear rates. Excellent for ITA, ITB, Spec-RX7, etc race cars. Perfect for intermediate - advanced track/HPED use with R-compound tires, but still can be easily driven to and from the track. Not recommended as a daily-driving street pad due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise.

XP10: For 2004, Carbotech unleashes Panther XP10 (compound 1110). This is an *extremely* high initial bite material, with a friction coefficient well above .6. Fade resistance is in excess of 1600F. Due to the high level of friction and bite, this material is recommended *ONLY* for cars in excess of 2600lbs using R-compound race tires or slicks (SCCA T1, T2, A Sedan, GT1, Trans-Am, Speed GT, etc.). On these heavier cars, 1110 still maintains the excellent modulation that has made the Panther-series of brake pads so popular. It is not recommended to drive this compound on the street or on the track with street tires due to the tendency to easily lock a lower-grip street tire with very little effort due to the high friction coefficient of this material. Note: Compound #1110 is more rotor aggressive than any other 1100-series compound.

The XP10 is an extremely aggressive compound for the E30 chassis, and is only recommended for FAST cars with twincam motors or insane drivers.
